Comments: I am agreeing with everyone today! Alina and Nicole, proving your point that the writer has to guide the story through the characters and drive the plot........which doesn't always reflect what the viewers may want. But, a writer has to write as the characters and story dictate to him. You've often stated that in the past.
And I agree with CKS and I agree with Amazee Dazee's post, too.
Amazee, Amen to what you said.
And I still stand by the greatest soap character ever written, Rachel Frame Cory. Amazing phoenix of Bay City.

Comments: Alina, the fact that both sides of this discussion can come up with coherent, well-reasoned arguments is proof positive that the story (directed/nudged by our poll responses but written by YOU) is also well-reasoned, coherent, and compelling enough to fight about! Love what you do, and don't ever change!

Comments: My problem was never the way the story was being written. It was the fact that Jamie constantly put Alice on a pedestal while tearing into Rachel at any opportunity. Spencer WAS no better than Carl and Jamie still excused Spencer's misdeeds because he was Alice's FORMER step-son. Carl may have sold Spencer out, but I have no doubt that Spencer would have done the same thing to Carl. And despite Alice claiming she doesn't wanna take the moral high ground with Rachel, I'm sure she enjoys Jamie defending her. Poor helpless Alice Harrison needing somebody to fight for her. If Rachel says anything about Alice, Jamie snaps at her. If Rachel points out how much of the same way that Spencer acted, Jamie would defend him. Hell, he would defend Lucas, who was in the mob. Jamie enjoys crapping on Rachel from a great height, as well as being cruel to her. I'm sure he just RELISHED the autopsy.

Comments: This is actually what happens when you do a story based on reader feedback.
All the polls wanted Carl to show that he wouldn't take any &*%$ from anyone, including Chase, Spencer, Iris, the compound, etc... They wanted the old Carl to come back and kick some #$%. Then they wanted Rachel to support him in whatever he did and to stand by him.
Now, however, the polls are siding with Jamie and Lorna against Rachel for taking the side of the man who kidnapped her son's wife, instead of her son's. And I have to write a coherent story that allows for both points of view to make sense.

Comments: LOL, JC, Malah Country indeed!
You and CKS make valid arguments-----however, none of the others involved are lily white in their lives, or thinking or morals, either. Not one of them. Even smug and supercilious Jamie Frame, who, has wholly forgiven others for their sins.....but God forbid Rachel or Carl, for that matter. They must pay and pay and pay, in his book.
I still stand by Rachel.
Oh, and Kirkland? That icon sums up what I think about him and he better keep his dirty paws off of Sarah's drawers (yeah, I liked the movie Grease, LOL).

Comments: I will always love the character of Rachel as portrayed by Victoria Wyndham, but Rachel has not been acting like Rachel for quite a while. We all were able to accept Carl's transformation because Rachel believed in him. Rachel also held Carl accountable for his actions past and present. For the last few years, Rachel has seemed to decide whatever Carl does is proper and necessary and RIGHT. Rachel's new morality started when Alice married Spencer and intimated that Carl was no better than Spencer. Alice never did bring out Rachel's better angels, but Rachel's reaction has been too extreme. Loving your spouse should not require you to be less intelligent or to set aside long-held values. I love Alina and Nicole's writing and have been reading episodes since week one, but I miss the Rachel who was devoted to her legacy from Mac, her friends and her family. Carl should not be the only interest in Rachel's life. I am anxious to see what the future without Carl brings! This is a brand new day for Rachel!

Comments: Jamie and Lorna are right. Rachel lost any credibility when she swept Carl's "protection" of teen Lorna under the rug and minimized it as part of her own love story, then swept her credibility downstairs to the dusty creepy cellar when she minimized Carl's kidnapping of Lorna, which kept Lorna away from her infant and toddler daughters (Rachel's grandchildren, for Chrissakes!!)for TWO WHOLE YEARS, and then LIED to Jamie that she KNEW about it and STILL thought that was appropriate behavior.
I love Carl and Rachel as a couple-- I thought their love story was a great redemption story, rivalling Mac's redemption of Rachel. But if Carl is a bad guy again/has a brain tumor/is-truly-and-sincerely-dead, he is not the redeemed guy he was. And what he did has no earthly excuse, and he is/was busy creating a next-generation monster in Elizabeth. Rachel has lost her moral compass and maybe her mind. That is my considered opinion. Hack away at it. I KNOW I'M RIGHT. PS~And Kirkland's reasoning was spot-on, too. I kind of like him and Sarah together. (Ducking the pumpkin pies being thrown at me from hither, thither, and yon).
